SUMMARY
Genentech is seeking a Security Manager of Operations, Protective Services to work full-time (on-campus), managing a group of dynamic Security Professionals. The Manager of Operations should have exceptional communication skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with Leadership and their teams. This role is on-campus and not remote, with some flexible work hours.
The role involves strong strategic and interpersonal skills but also an understanding of operations, people leadership, Executive Protection and program management skills. The role will also interface with employees and stakeholders across multiple teams within and outside of Genentech. As the Manager of Operations, you will be responsible for the management and development of the Executive Protection teams for Genentech’s Senior Leadership, and other leaders or employees as necessary.
The position requires an individual that has significant problem solving and analytical skills and can objectively evaluate information and make sound decisions. The individual must be a strong people manager and confidently navigate a complex and changing landscape. This is a full-time position reporting to the Head of Protective Services and is located in our South San Francisco office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage, guide and continue to develop a large team of Security Professionals in the Protective Services group
Build and maintain relationships with Leadership and their teams to successfully execute their programs at Genentech
Work daily in collaboration and coordination with Security partners
Responsible for defining, developing and implementing processes, procedures and best practices
Communicate, present and field questions from Leadership and their teams
Lead large, cross-division functional projects that impact the organization's long-term goals and objectives
Understand and potentially manage operational budgets, financial reporting and vendor contracts
Develop and support security plans related to identified special projects and other high-profile events conducted locally and across the enterprise
Foster teamwork and communication across teams
Responsible for developing goals and objectives that are consistent with agreed strategies
Quality management of programs, special assignments, training and vendors
Comfortable presenting to Executives and/or Senior Leadership and their teams
Domestic and International travel as required
Conducts advances and provides protective services in support of the Protective Services Program, to ensure the effective execution of residential, work, and travel security programs
Maintains and develops working relationships with senior industry peers, government agencies, and with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies
Works with the Protective Services Practitioners Team to ensure coordination and facilitation of executive travel to and from locally covered events. Will also be called upon to conduct transportation security advances and also conduct executive driving services on a case by case basis (weekends included)
Conducts threat & vulnerability assessments on domestic travel itineraries for senior executives; Provides risk assessments, develops contingency plans, and makes recommendations to mitigate vulnerability; conducts travel advances as appropriate and at the direction of their Supervisor, to ensure safety and security of traveling executives
Completes a broad variety of administrative tasks to include but not limited to: composing and preparing correspondence that is sometimes confidential; edits and compiles written documents (assessments and reports)
Develops new and updated standard operating procedures. Provides assistance in developing process improvement initiatives across the organization
Mentors and manages personnel to ensure maximum effectiveness including conflict resolution, training situational leadership and coaching
Works closely and effectively with senior management to keep them well informed of department deliverables, deadlines and outcomes
Participates as an adjunct member of the Executive Team including assisting in scheduling meetings, secured transportation and attending all meetings. Assist in coordinating the agendas of executive team meetings and off-sites, and all-staff meetings
Assists in evaluating the performance of team members, contributing to career development plans to increase retention and employee engagement.
Performs other duties as assigned by senior management.
Conducts Protective Intelligence searches on a daily basis focusing on senior leadership and shares findings with senior leadership and stakeholders
Leads all Protective Services strategies and framework in support of a role/ based risk/ based approach
Member of the TAT in review of WAVR21 processes in determining risk levels for persons of interest
Leads the physical support arm of P&C Termination Standby conversations
Collaborates with the Meeting and Event Security Program Manager as needed and supports meetings associated with senior leadership and other risks
Conducts continuous benchmarking efforts with industry partners and collaborates with outside agencies
Review and maintain budgetary goals in association with organizational expectations and company directives
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is preferred
5+ years of experience developing, training and directing Security Professionals
Working knowledge and experience of Security Operations, Protective Services
Experience in protection strategies, tactics, and technology
Leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring and teaching
Project management skills
Experience identifying security issues, customize, implement and execute innovative processes and solutions
Experience in managing and reporting departmental QBRs, metrics, KPI and data trends
Candidate must be able to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and in writing. Must be comfortable interacting with senior level executives, board members and government representatives
Candidates must be self-directed, demonstrate initiative, be able to adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and work with minimal guidance.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Google Applications), Adobe Acrobat, and social media.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $107,300.00 - $199,300.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
