Job Description

SUMMARY:

This is a full-time position, that is primarily responsible for the athletic performance of our Academy teams but is also expected to work as part of Real Salt Lake’s Athlete Health & Performance Department, which also services our MLS NEXT PRO and MLS teams.  

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develops and implements all daily warmups before training for both Academy teams 
  • Develops and implements weekly in-gym strength training sessions for both Academy teams 
  • Develops and implements on-field performance sessions (acceleration, sprinting, change of direction, jumping and landing mechanics, etc.) 
  • Manages and develops individual programs for High Performing Players (HPP) within the Academy as identified by the coaching/management staff 
  • Monitors and reports on athlete’s athletic development throughout the year to Academy coaches and to Head of Performance 
  • Assists athletic trainers with return-to-play progressions for injured athletes 
  • Liaises with academy coaches and assists with session planning, specifically as it pertains to daily, weekly, and yearly physical loading 
  • Overseas and helps implement club-wide physical development structure with other Performance Coaches 
  • Other duties as assigned.  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field 
  • Must have 2 years of working in a collegiate, MLS Academy, or professional setting 
  • Must be able to work with different sports science technology and can produce reports for coaches, medical, and others, including GPS, Force Plates, NordBord and ForceFrame, and Timing gates.
  • Must be able to work independently, but also as part of a larger team. 
  • Must be enthusiastic to work with and develop high school-aged athletes 
  • Ability to work variable schedules including mornings, evenings, and weekends 
  • Must be able to physically demonstrate performance exercises and on-field activities
  • Ability to travel, including potential international. 
  • Must pass SafeSport training and background check

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • NSCA’s CSCS or CSCCa’s SCCC 
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certified 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience with soccer preferred, but not required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT :

The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 50 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity or environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, etc.
